EmPOWERED To Serve Conference:
Creating a Culture of Health in Faith-Based Communities
DATE: Saturday, July 16, 2016 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
LOCATION: Duke Trent Semans Health Education Center, 8 Searle Center Drive, Durham NC 27708
What is EmPOWERED To Serve?
The American Heart Association (AHA) is gathering faith-based organizations together in order to make significant positive health improvements within multicultural communities.
EmPOWERED To Serve Conference
The EmPOWERED To Serve (ETS) conference will act as a catalyst for the generation of the discussion of ideas, sharing of information, and providing access to information on health for faith-based organizations in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Who should attend the conference: To create a sustainable culture of health it is critical to identify a cross-functional team within the faith-based site to identify, collaborate and drive implementation of a comprehensive plan. We suggest 4-5 member teams attend representing ministries and officers (trustees, deacons/deaconess, health, nursing, food/feeding, youth, and other outreach ministries).
What will be discussed: Ways to positively impact health behaviors through the creation of environments that support healthy choices within the faith community. Specific discussions will center on the following four health priorities:
· Smoke-free environments and policies
· CPR knowledge and training
· Blood pressure management and control
· Healthy food and beverage offerings
